SkeinSense ("we", "our", or "us") is made by Liquid Monks, LLC. This policy explains what information the SkeinSense app and web app (the "App") use, and why.
Your stash, projects and settings are stored only on your device. We do not receive or store them.
Label and pattern photos: when you choose to scan, the App asks for camera or photo-library access and sends that one image to our server, which passes it to OpenAI to read the text (yardage, weight, dye lot and so on) and returns the result to you. Images are not stored on our server, and OpenAI's API terms exclude API data from model training.
Receipt text you paste: if you paste an order confirmation to add yarn to your stash (or paste a link to one, in which case the App loads that page on your device first), that text is sent to our server and on to OpenAI the same way, to pick out the yarn names, quantities and prices. A receipt can include a shop name, an order total or the last digits of a card, so paste only what you are happy to share. The text is not stored on our server.
A random install ID: the App creates a random identifier on first use and sends it with each scan so we can apply fair daily scan limits. It is not linked to your name, email or any account (the App has no accounts).
Server logs: our server logs the time and processing cost of each scan. Only when a request is refused for going over a limit does the log also record the network address it came from and the first characters of its install ID, so we can stop abuse.
Payments: during the beta everything is free and the App sells nothing. If paid plans are offered later, purchases will be handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play (with RevenueCat managing which features you have unlocked); we will never see your card details, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
We take the security of your data seriously. Because your stash and project data stay on your device, the security of that data depends on the security of your device itself.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
